Living with a Good Conscience

Scripture: “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” — 1 Timothy 1:5

Being a Christian is about much more than just following rules or participating in religious traditions. While things like baptism are beautiful symbols of our faith, they don’t save us from our sins. True salvation comes when we believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with our mouths that He is Lord. Baptism is like a public “break-up” with our old, sinful lives and a commitment to walk a new path with God.

One of the most important parts of this new life is keeping a “good conscience.” This means we care about what is happening on the inside of our hearts, not just how we look to others on the outside. A good conscience acts like an inner compass, guided by the Holy Spirit, helping us to stay honest and honorable in everything we do. It is an appeal to God to keep our lives clean and our motives pure.

When we listen to our God-given inner voice, we grow closer to Him. If we make a mistake or hurt someone, a good conscience prompts us to make it right rather than hiding it. Our goal as a family is to pursue a faith that is sincere and a love that comes from a heart made clean by Jesus.

Before bed each night, take one minute of silence to ask God if there is anything on your conscience that you need to confess to Him or any person you need to ask for forgiveness.

Lord, thank You for the gift of new life and for the way You guide our hearts. Help us to maintain a good conscience and to be quick to listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice. May our family be known for having sincere faith and hearts that truly love You. Amen.
